Becoming a Team Member

Becoming a member of the team starts with a focus on safety, confidence, and readiness. Athletes should demonstrate foundational skills across swim, bike, and run to ensure they can participate safely and build effectively within a team setting. These expectations are not about perfection, but about creating a baseline that supports growth, reduces risk, and promotes confidence in training and racing.

While age guidelines help ensure developmental readiness, individual ability and maturity are always considered. The goal is to create an environment where each athlete feels prepared, supported, and capable of progressing in a structured and positive way.

Expectations:

  • Tread water for 1 minute, then swim 100 meters in under 2 minutes

  • Comfortably mount and ride a bike unassisted with control for at least 2 miles

  • Run 1 mile in under 10 minutes

  • Be 8 years or older (exceptions may be made for advanced 6 or 7 year olds)

  • Meet standards that prioritize safety, readiness, and team participation

Triathlon is a great way for young athletes to explore movement, build confidence, and discover what they are capable of in a fun and supportive setting. With three sports to rotate through, it keeps things fresh and engaging while helping kids develop strength, endurance, and coordination.

More than anything, it teaches life skills like resilience, focus, and how to work through challenges. There is a real sense of pride that comes from finishing something that once felt hard. Kids learn to trust themselves, support teammates, and enjoy the process. It is not just about racing, it is about growing into a stronger, more confident version of themselves.
