3T Continues Strong Summer with Podium Finishes at Coveathlon Summer Race Series #2
The momentum continues for Tustin Triathlon Team (3T) as our athletes delivered another outstanding day of racing at Coveathlon Summer Race Series #2 in Newport Beach. Competing in the challenging 1K swim and 5K run, our athletes once again demonstrated resilience, confidence, and the rewards of consistent training.
Leading the way was Jeanette Kurnow, who repeated her dominant performance from the opening race of the series. Jeanette captured gold in the 19-and-under division while also finishing as the second overall female in the event. Week after week, she continues to establish herself as one of the region's rising endurance athletes, combining elite open water swimming with strong run fitness to consistently compete at the front of the field.
One of the day's most inspiring performances came from Ada Reynoso. Entering the race late, Ada took on distances she had never previously trained for or completed in competition. Despite the challenge, she raced with determination and confidence, earning the silver medal with a second-place finish in her division and crossing the finish line in 59 minutes. Her willingness to embrace a new challenge reflects the grit, resilience, and growth that define the 3T philosophy, proving that courage to try something new often leads to remarkable results.
Coach and athlete TJ Reynoso also continued his steady return to racing following clavicle surgery earlier this year. Building on last week's performance, TJ improved his overall time by two minutes, finishing in 54 minutes. More importantly, the race reflected growing endurance, improved conditioning, and increasing confidence in the open water as he continues progressing back toward full race fitness.
The event featured an impressive turnout from SoCal Aquatics, whose large contingent of athletes showcased the strength of their swim program by competing at a high level. Their presence highlighted the growing connection between competitive swimming and multisport racing, with many young swimmers successfully translating their aquatic skills into strong overall performances on the race course.
The event also featured a strong contingent from Team Xterra, a familiar and respected presence within the Southern California triathlon community. Their athletes captured several podium finishes, contributing to a highly competitive atmosphere and showcasing the depth of talent in the region.
Perhaps the greatest takeaway from the event was seeing so many young athletes embracing the sport of triathlon. Watching youth competitors challenge themselves in open water, transition efficiently, and push through the run course reinforces the bright future of multisport in Southern California.
Congratulations to Jeanette, Ada, and Team Xterra, and every athlete who stepped up to the starting line. We look forward to seeing what the next race has in store.
