The 2026 summer racing season is officially underway, and Team 3T wasted no time making an impact at the opening race of the Coveathlon Summer Race Series in Newport Beach's scenic Back Bay. Featuring a challenging 1K open water swim followed by a 5K run, the event served as the first test of what promises to be an exciting and demanding race calendar through September.

Leading the way was Jeanette "Big Time" Kurnow (12), who delivered another statement performance in the water. Jeanette captured gold in the Girls 19 & Under division, posting an impressive 41:39 overall time highlighted by a blazing 15:30 1K swim. Her swim wasn't just the fastest among female junior athletes—it was strong enough to finish ahead of every competitor in the race for the Women's 20–29 division. Jeanette showcased elite open water ability she has developed through years of dedicated training. The performance continues an outstanding year for Jeanette and reinforces her reputation as one of Southern California's rising young endurance athletes.

Coach TJ Reynoso also returned to competition after recovering from clavicle surgery 3 months ago, receiving medical clearance for full activity just one week before race day. Racing for the first time since surgery, he saw the event as more than a finish line—it marked an important milestone in his recovery.  TJ completed the course in 55 minutes, finishing with a strong 26-minute 5K run that demonstrated that his aerobic fitness remains strong.

The 3T community was joined by members of SoCal Aquatics, with Maylee and her mother Ingrid also turning in outstanding performances. Ingrid captured gold in the Women's 40–49 division, finishing in 38 minutes, while Maylee crossed the finish line in an impressive 53 minutes, highlighting the depth of talent and commitment within the SOCAL Aquatics community.

Patience Pays Off

One notable 3T athlete was absent from the starting line. Ada Reynoso did not compete in this opening Coveathlon at her coach's recommendation. She is excited to take on the Coveathlon challenge later this season—possibly at the August race—or make it one of her primary goals for next year. Team 3T now shifts its focus to one of its busiest competitive stretches of the year, balancing elite swim competitions, triathlons, and national championship events.
