Season Opener at Mission Bay: A Strong Start for 3T

The season opened at the Spring Sprint in Mission Bay, setting the tone for what promises to be a meaningful year for 3T. This marked our first event of the season, with two athletes stepping to the line: Ada and Jeanette. Surrounded by a deep field that included top competitors and state champions, both athletes embraced the moment with focus and composure.

Jeanette K. delivered an impressive inaugural performance in the 11–12 girls division. She came out strong with a standout swim, exiting the water first and immediately putting herself in contention. On the bike, she stayed controlled and consistent, holding second position against a competitive field. She carried that momentum into the run, maintaining her place and earning a well-deserved silver medal. It was a confident and complete race, and a clear sign of what lies ahead.

Ada, recently stepping into the 9–10 division, showed she belongs among older and more experienced athletes. She exited the water in third and held that position throughout the race with steady effort and determination. While a course route error ultimately led to a disqualification from medal contention, her performance reflected growth, resilience, and readiness for this next level. She will be back, and stronger.

There was also a sobering moment during the event, as both athletes witnessed lifeguards respond to an adult swimmer in distress. The situation appeared serious, and the outcome was unknown. It served as a powerful reminder that endurance sports, especially in open water, carry real risks. Moments like this bring perspective. They remind us to respect the environment, prioritize safety, and appreciate the opportunity to compete.

Despite the emotional weight of that experience, both Ada and Jeanette remained composed. They stepped forward, stayed present, and competed with intention. That speaks not only to their ability as athletes, but to their character.

This was more than just a race. It was a beginning. What stood out was not only performance, but growth, awareness, and the ability to respond under pressure.
